Mondays class September 27

We had a great time. Although for some it was a short class and for some a long one. One of the student s arrived an hour early so he went right to work making fresh hot muffins for his classmates.
On Monday we studied and made butter and from that we increased our appreciation for the butterophagous Scythians(really that was who started butter).Sadkly ee did not have a fresh leather pouch to churn it in, so we made do with a food processor. I think we all can agree there is nothing like freshly whipped sweet butter on hot chocolate chip muffins. A note to the students the zucchini muffins got better the next day.
Our second class food at war we discussed butter and margarine during war times and its development. NOTE to self, when a homeschooler says he knows about something, he probably knows more then you. One of our students told us he knew something about margaine and it development. He knew so very much, we just let him take over that section of class, he was awesome! This is the second week that has happened, but with a different student! I must admit I do not have this problem with my regular school students...hmm.
Well with the wind appropriately taken out of my sails we moved onto Cooking 101. Mayonnaise was our food of choice. So with whisks and bowls in hand everyone proceeded to make mayonnaise. Out of 7 students only one was successful at making mayonnaise. Why? Because he followed the recipe directions with such accurate detailas and focus producing a light and flovorful mayonnaise. No matter how hard we whipped and processed we could not create an emulsion of the right consistancy. Lesson learned. Read the directions and follow carefully. It was a good lesson to learn.
Next week remember you music and docking station for dancing and cooking.
